First Les Mis revival, which didn't win anything. It didn't really surprise me, I heard it's not that great, plus I think every one is Les Mised out right now. But I figured you would want to see this because it is One Day More. And my friends Melissa and Tiz are in it. Oh, and beware of Eponine's vibrato. UGH. Someone removed the video. Here is them doing it on Good Morning, America.
Next is a musical called "Beautiful - The Carole King Musical". Carole King is a singer songwriter from the 70's, she sings You've Got a Friend, and other famous songs that you would only know if you heard them. I heard this show was really awesome, and this chick won Best Actress this year over Idina, Sutton, and Kelli O'Hara, so that's a huge deal. I think her voice is beautiful and that this was a really great clean performance.
Neil Patrick Harris won Best Actor for this crazy revival of a 70's glam rock musical about a kid with a failed sex change called Hedwig and the Angry Inch, and the chick who plays a dude won best Featured Actress. While it's raunchy, I thought this looked AWESOME.
Sutton Foster is in the revival of this musical called Violet, which is about this woman with a facial scar and she goes to find a reverend who can fix it. I just love the first song in this clip, and any musical that has a big black choir is fine by me. Cool fact: They don't actually mark a scar on Sutton's face but the way the show is done you understand it's there.
Also, check out the crazy little white chick in the choir. Love her.
Before I post my last favorite performance, I just wanted to put Audra McDonald's acceptance speech on here. This is her 6th Tony, and she is the first person to ever win Tony's in all 4 categories. I just really love this because of how humble and grateful she is, and because when I met her I thought she was the most down to earth, grounded, and kindest actress and person. I was thrilled that she won because I think she really deserved it.
Here is the last one. This show looks so incredible and hilarious. It's called "A Gentleman's Guide to Love and Murder" and from what I've heard is there is nothing else like it. It won Best Musical, Best Direction, Best Book, Nominations in every category for acting. I want to see it SO bad. And after seeing this clip I think you will understand why.
So there it is. Those were my most favorite performances, but I had to exclude some so as to not completely take over this blog. Just know that the Aladdin performance was awkward, Cabaret looked racy and super cool, and Idina Menzel sang a song from her new musical and she actually did a great job unlike at the Oscars. I hope you like these as much as I did, and I hope one day we will have all the money in the world so we can go see shows all the time.
